2010 Ukulele Building Class
Re: 2010 Ukulele Building Class

Fae's label.
Re: 2010 Ukulele Building Class
More time in the workshop today, and got some glue slathered on and attached bindings on some ukes.
Fae getting stuck in. Using HHG to install the bindings. I'm helping push them into place while Fae is applying the binding tape. Wrapping with twill tape to synch everything up nice and tight. Richard playing catchup after being sidelined with an operation that had him miss the about a month of the course. Brian and Nev being very intent on getting everything just right. Fae and Brian unwrapping the twill tape so they could inspect their handy work.

The vacuum clamp works a treat. I got it all up and operational this past week in anticipation for some heavy use. It's one of those things I had put away for the big move, and should have got around to a long time ago.
Bindings are maple I believe. Tim sent them to me some time ago. I thought they might have been cheese wood, but they aren't hard enough for that.

Got some more pictures this weekend. Everyone is progressing along nicely.
Fae's got the first session of epoxy pore filling, She was pretty excited when the epoxy started to show off that lovely figure.
We also managed to get a session of Mirotone sprayed onto Brian's uke after everyone else had left. This is just the first coat. After 5 it looks spectacular, but I think I'll wait until the instruments are done and we'll do a proper photo shoot to really show them off.

Wow, looks great. Bryan said I should come onto the site to have a look. He's pretty pleased I reackon.

Brian was just itching to find out how it looked when I saw him at the Tanks today. He didn't want to ask, but was really relieved when I told him it was just amazing.
Under finish this is some of prettiest Blackwood I've ever seen. Photo's really aren't able to do it justice. You need to be able to roll the instrument around in you hands and watch the light play across the grain. Colors shifting around like they do in pearl. And the figure is just great.
