truss rod access question

a question for all those on here who know more than me (ie. everyone).

can a slotted headstock neck have truss rod access at the headstock or will this weaken the scarf joint too much.

Well I bloody hope so .....cos that's what I'm attempting with my latest build.


Sorry, just re-read your post & I didn't use a scarf joint (should have read it properly!!), I laminated my neck up using one piece 'profiles' (headstock angle already shaped in)

i've had a closer look and due to the 10 degree angle the truss rod slot wont come anywhere near the scarf joint.

but, do i need to consider that the cut out for the slots along with truss rod slot is a reasonable amount of missing wood?

nick you dont seem to have worried, so maybe i'm making my brain hurt all for nothing.

I'm using a 25" scale so there will be/is abit less string tension so that's one area I see as lessening the risk. But during my years of building electrics I've taken the necks down on some of those to the point of alot less wood in the nut area than an acoustic in an effort to thin the necks for speed players. I used a 14degree splice on those and only had one come apart, but that was due to a slack glue joint on my part earlier days and it went into my internal "learning experience - must not do that again!" file.
