Canberra Luthiers for repair work?

Post by Jackson » Tue Sep 22, 2009 10:31 pm

Hi all,

New to the forum, not yet a maker but very interested in learning and improving my understanding of guitars (and other things with strings). In the interim I still pay to have guitars made (and repaired) but would dearly love to acquire some skills in that department, mainly for repair but maybe making one some day? I have a keen interest in finger style and various slide styles of playing and instruments, playing a range of weird and wonderful alternate tunings (hence the number of guitars I own  )

I currently own and play a Lawrence Smith Dobro, a 1930 Montgomery Ward lap style parlor, 1974 K Yairi YW1000 (a D-45 copy), Takamine E10, 1983 K Yairi 12 string and a non name German parlor guitar from the late 30's.

I live on the far south coast of NSW, an area void of guitar makers/repairs of skill as far as I can tell. Does anyone know of any down here (or in Canberra)?

Kind regards
Jackson

Welcome to the forum Jackson. I use to live in Batemans Bay, but have relocated to Ciarns.

Graham MacDonald, and Dominic Regan are just 2 that live in the ACT that I can think of off the top of my head.

Hey Jackson, Canberra has quite a few guitar builders including Graham Mac and Craig Clancy on here plus at least another 6 or so not on this forum.
What was it you were trying to fix?
Cheers

I have a german built parlor style guitar from the 40's that needs some repairs, the spruce top is split at the join in the middle, a few of the braces neeed refixing and it needs a general tidy up. It is a nice little guitar so i am reluctant to try repairing it myself at this stage but I would like to be playing it.
