Another guess what wood it is game!

Post by Cam » Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:00 pm

I have this bench top which came from a bench that was in my mum's work/ shop/ whatever, and today I started cutting it up. One problem though, I have no clue what type of wood it is, anyone know?

Looks like maybe some old Hoop Pine.
Cheers from Micheal.

Wild stab as from the photos, it could be bloody anything, but...

I'd be guessing hoop as Micheal did or possibly old bunya pine.

Impossible to say with certainty though.

Jeremy.

I was thinking bass wood. I found a bunch of this stuff in my house when I ripped out old built-in desks etc from the kids bedrooms, and I know the guy who built this house got his timber from North America. I just trashed it - didn't think about electrics, shame. Maybe our Yank/Canadian mates could shed some light?

Could be plywood from the first pic, so I'll say birch.
