Spruce arrived today

The Engelmann Spruce arrived today so it looks like Father Christmas came to Bob and Dave early this year. And only took 12 weeks from Canada this time.

I took the first half a dozen sets out and they are all nice and stiff and ring like a gong. And for under 20 bucks a set plus free bracewood, a set of steak knives and a patty stacker (but wait, there's more) this is seriously good tonewood at a more than reasonable price. And no I'm not on commision from Graham Hein but I'd put his wood up against anyones.

I also think that Engelmann has an undeserved reputation of having little overhead when played aggressively. We've built four Engelmann, one Sitka and one Lutz OM this year and it stacks up pretty well for fingerstyle or strumming.

Right then. I'll be off to roll in it.

Graham Hein is the man for decent Englemann zoot, isn't he?

You have the patience of a saint to wait 12 weeks!!!!! I get twitchy after five days!!!

I am really pleased with the 5 sets I got from him a few months ago. Thanks for recommending him!

(It only seemed like a few years ago, spruce was just spruce...)

I compared this Canadian Englemann to the 3 sets I bought from Stewmac a year ago- and there were runout issues in the Stewmac spruce.

Oh yeah- the practice of rolling in zoot is vital - compressing those cellulose fibers for maximising tonal properties!!

Congrats Bob on a great score.

I love good Engleman and I think that it is more rich with overtones then say Sitka.

It is slightly more transparent (less pigment) than other spruces so LMI White glue or HHG helps to hide the glue line. It also holds paint very well too:)

So when do we get to see the pics of your guys rolling in it?

Has he numbered the plates so you know what pieces mate up, or are they so closely matched that it doesn't matter all that much?

I think it might make some very nice and very light neck and end blocks Dave.

We have another packing box which is made from Adirondack spruce which is currently our spray booth.

Sit the guitar body on top of it, wait for a sunny and not so windy day and go for it.

I got my wood from Graham about a week ago.....for some reason it took a bit quicker to get to me than your consignment. Out on the rig at the moment so cant get a look at the stuff. Did the stuff come in a wooden box (in one of your photos)?

The shipping costs from Canada are high so maybe if a few of us want to do further buys it would be worth combining buys and spliting shipping costs. I think theres a 40lb limit on weight of parcels so that can be a pain as well. Ive got half a bracing order which wouldnt fit in with the last lot of wood I bought so wouldnt mind squezzing same into some elses package if possible.
