Is there suppose to be a correct direction for the herringbone to flow? No one told me. :lol:

It's the same direction as around the body, and I've done it the same on all the ones I've used herringbone on. For no other reason that when I'm holding the guitar, and looking down on it, to my eye, I like to see the pattern flowing around the body in that direction.

Allen, I've been researching your question.
What I found indicates that not only did you err in making the herringbone go counter-clockwise, but you made the soundhole round.

It's fairly obvious to me Steve that that soundhole used to be round but the whole board has undergone some fairly drastic longitudinal compression since it was cut. I'd say the whole top has been used to prop up & support the end of the makers 4" thick workbench while he/she built another guitar.

Nick, you'll probably say, next, that that cutaway used to be a Floretine-style? You know, compression and all deforming it into a Venetian?

Allen, in all seriousness, it just doesn't matter.
I've seen 'em both ways, but I think Dave's answer still stands as the best.
You're a Southern Hemisphere kind of guy.
Do those rosettes counter-clockwise!
And by golly, if the overseas customers don't like it, just send 'em MY way!

Had a whirlwind trip down to Townsville and back yesterday. Got to meet Taffy, and have a bit of a chat. Then down to some serious work with Alan doing all of it, and me just getting to sit back and listen. He did some sound samples of each of these instruments, and I'm over the moon with the results.

Instead of linking to each of these files, I'll just point a link to the page on my website, were you can listen to them, and save them if you like. I don't mind, and Alan even did a bit of singing in a couple of the songs. 8)

I love it! I can hear a difference between them, sort of. I can't tell you what the difference is in words, but I know they aren't identical. Nor can I say I prefer one over the other. They both sound wonderful.

Nice playing and singing Alan. You are stuck in my iPod now.

You have lots to be proud of there Allen. Thanks for sharing them. Love the website too. Nicely done. Clean and classy, like your guitars.

Up close and personal, there is a distinct difference in the two. The Orchestral has what I'd describe as a full rich bass response and lots of nuances, like a great Shiraz, where the Auditorium is bright, clear and crisp, such as in a New Zealand Reisling. :lol:

Allen, I'm stuck using my laptop speakers. Left my earbuds at work. The docking station is in the bedroom at the moment and its 2:30 in the morning here. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Congrats Allen and Alan! Allen the guitars sound beautiful, I'd agree with your interpretations - even down to the wine selections :) Really crisp and defined but full bodied too. And Alan, great job playing and singing, wish I had that talent.

So when do they ship out to the final farewell?

Plan is to ship in about a week. The new owner was going to be away until then and didn't want them showing up without anyone home.
