Today I spent changing the workshops around, trying to get more space. I was amazed at some of the stuff I came across. I found this long lost box of shell, Abalone, the shell in front is MOP.
Whilst in Adelaide I was at a craft type market and saw a table full of different types of shell, I asked how much and was told $12 each for the Abalone. I did not buy any as it was too small.
I really like southern ocean abalone shell. It has all the colour variations found in Kiwi pau shell but not near as in your face, sort of a pastel variation if you like. Traditional pau is truly spectacular stuff and I love it, but both certainly have a place in inlay because sometimes less really is so much more.
Hi Guys. hey Allen I did not forget I got it, I just forgot where it was.
I rearranged the workshops and checked all my timber and came across these two pieces, now that was a surprise. It's called Brown Cudgee / Sugar Plum, thats all I know. It's slab sawn.
