It's got to be close to 30 years ago that movie was made. Hesh has really aged well. Sure, he's put on just a few pounds, but who of us hasn't?

Hi All been ages since I logged in but been taking a peek often and learning heaps from you guys.
When I sore the Banjo thread had to jump in.
This is a Tenor banjo/Tea Tin guitar That I made and play at gigs etc.
it is a bit crude but sounds different and always creates some interest.
this one I mostly tune G D A D and play bluesy stuff.
Have made a few instruments out of similar Tea Tins and they my be a bit ugly but sound very cool.

Just got the plans for the "Cumberland banjo" pictured here...

Cost me $25USD from here. They want another $100 for the hardware, but all I need to purchase is the wood and some tuning keys which I'll find locally.

The body is 12" diameter. Any ideas for cutting circles that size with a laminate trimmer would be welcome.

Make a false base out of a piece of scrap wood that's 10" long. Bore a hole 6" from where the bit pokes through.

Hip, just think of using the laminate trimmer like you are cutting a rosette. I did my dining room table that is round and 4 foot diameter in the same way. Lots of light ts and it goes pretty easy.

That is way cool Luke, Ive been perving at these kinds of builds for quite a while. Love that sound!

Is the back enclosed?. I have this coffee tin......

Sebastiaan yes the back is enclosed.
The tin is the way it came when it had 3kg of tea in it.
The neck is all the way through the tin.

Yeah it probably is, but it was a very popular song that got a lot of air play with a banjo as center instrument. All the rest feature or have a banjo in the track somewhere.

My only problem with banjos are they are rather rough on the fingers.
