Brazilian / Bearclaw Sitka OM

The owner of this new guitar gave me these pix today, and thought you might like to see what our shop has been up to.
The owner supplied the Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides, and we kicked in the rest. Stats:

Braz. rosewood back n' sides.
Top- Bearclaw Sitka.
Neck of Hond. mahog w/ center lam of maple (fine line Braz. racing stripes).
Rosette and bindings of quilted Sapele.
Fretboard, bridge and ph overlay of Braz. rosewood.
Tuners--gold Waverlys.
FWI saddle, nut and pins.

Steve, that's just some killer wood, and it all compliments each other so well. Whenever you post a new instrument I'm always going over the details for ideas to try on one of my own.

Figured Mahogany bindings look like they just might do the trick on something on the work bench right now. Thanks....gotta go and see what's in my stash. :D

Very, very cool guitar Steve my friend!!

I really like how the "racing stripe" on the neck blends in perfectly with the sap wood on the back too.

Eloquent, classy, and the bear claw top just takes it over the top making one very cool guitar.

What can I say that hasn't already been said! A true piece of art, the woods work so well together that it's speech stoppingly beautiful. But that rosette! I could go swimming in those waves.

It's a kind of Australian fish Steve, very high in omega 3s I'm told. They looks sort of like my old avatar of a brain scratching it's head only with a big wide tail out the back and a mohawk kind of fin on top, still got the arms and legs though and the eyes are much, much bigger because they live in very deep water.

Don't have any idea what they have to do with your guitar though cause whilst they may look like they come from one end, they actually taste like they come out of other and I think your guitar looks very tasty.

Sebastiaan, that finish will be fairly easy to duplicate, if you don't mind shipping your guitar to Michigan.
It's a cat urethane on the body, done by Tony Ferguson. It's gloss, by the way.
The neck is nitro, done in house. We buffed the peghead, and hand-rubbed a satin finish for the rest of the neck. (Customer's request)
Satin finishes are wonderful--I love 'em.
So it's very much like a Martin (not to be confused w/ a certain kiwi) in that the body is gloss and the neck is satin.

Yes, I'm fairly well pleased with that quilted Sapele. Uncle Bob sent me that as an orphaned side in a batch of orphaned sides, and I knew right away it was something special. I'll be doling out what's left very carefully, as he's got none left....
