Multiple sound holes !

Post by Nick » Fri Mar 06, 2009 1:36 pm

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I was amused to see this guitar made by a guy who I admire not just as a luthier but all round good guy.

Yes they are real bug holes! god knows how he braced it?
And the details/explanation of it,

I love when Bob tampers with the conceived idea of what tradition is. He made an archtop entirely of what is considered 'bad' tonewood by other makers (flat sawn maple back & sides & a bit of pine complete with knots in it,for the soundboard). By playing with the way he carved the top and back & the bracing altered accordingly, he commented that he doubted if anybody could to tell the difference between it and a 'proper' archtop in a blindfold test. He quite often uses it at his seminars as his demonstrator.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

For a small fee I can save you a ton of cash. It's already sold.

Paul

P.S. not much of a first post I'm afraid.

This sort of wood is as common as fleas on a dog on the beaches were I grew up in British Columbia.

Toredo worms, (I think is actually a snail), and any wood that is left in the ocean for any length of time is infested by them. They also stink like nothing you've ever smelt before when they are fresh and go through the sawmill. Whenever we got wood like this at the mill I worked it was just chipped up for pulp.

Robert does a much more admirable job using it than the pulp and paper companies.

Indeed he does, but don't suggest that to him! He'll make Paper Mache archtops next.......just to prove it can be done. :)
