Sticky back sandpaper rolls
Sticky back sandpaper rolls
I wonder if anyone has been able to source the 3M sticky backed sandpaper rolls here in Australia. I don't know but I would have thought everybody's using it. What do you blokes use?
I am only able to source it from Stew Mac. Most Aussie suppliers have never heard of it, or "we used to stock it but there was no call for it"??? Appreciate any response
regards
Heiner

Hi
I could not find it in Aussie either, like most things, tried for long time in the end Stumac to the rescue. I did not realise how big the guitar building community was in aussie until I come across the forum, and I only come accross the forum by accident cos I never looked at Australia I always went overseas. Silly me.

Don't get me started with this.
OK, you egged me on......
I've used this stuff for God knows how long. Even in Australia. I wanted to get some for working at home, so I went into the auto paint supply store where the shop I work at gets all their material. Even wearing my logo work uniform. Ask them for it, but am told that there is no such thing. They talk down to me like I just fell of a turnip truck even when I tell them we've been using at work, and they tell me I'm full of Sh*t. So I go back to work and bring a piece to show them.
Just blank stares!
And the answer in case your wondering, is "They never carried it. Don't sell it. Can't or won't carry it" So P*ss off.
The only reason these guys are still in business, is because they're in Cairns, and this is just accepted customer service.
Wheeew, I feel heaps better now.

Yep, no two ways about it, they are pretty course and can wear a man down in no time. I am not normally aggressive but I had to get the guy back because he slipped my disc and gave me a good belting last time I was in there. Guess I should have just kept my cool and told him to Stikit, MMM
Cheers

Allen I feel for ya mate but at the same time it's a relief that I am not the only one. It seems there is a big sign on the side of my van that says... JIMS TURNIP SUPPLIES....I can't see it but it must be there.
The looks I got when asking for a Cabinet Scraper. The looks were then followed by "whats that?", "never heard of it" and the final blow was "why don't you use sandpaper".
I must admit the Anti-depressants help.
Blackwoods think I invent things so I can go in there and cause trouble for them. Some of the staff are very helpful though.

It's not just me!!!! I'm putting it down to far too much sun and heat. There has to be some reason.
Never asked for a cabinet scraper, and I'm not game to take my chances
"Where do you stock your shellac flakes?" was the last question that solicited the blank stare. Then I was asked "What's that?". This from an apparently highly trained staff member at a local paint store where I shop occasionally.
I haven't tried asking this bloke for some 3M stickit paper yet. Gotta try that one next time I'm in there for a laugh.

Phew! That sure put the cat amongst the pidgeons. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who has these problems.
Kiwi, does the dunny roll have a sticky back, if so, where did ya get it?
Thanks Bob I haven't tried Blackwoods yet but I will.
I actually rang a supplier in Sydney where the bloke was most helpfull although they didn't stock the product and he didn't know of it he said he'd check and call me back. He did 30 mins later to say that he was just speaking to the 3M rep and guess what he said. "Don't know it, don't carry it, can't get it. It's not a 3M product"
Thanks for trying mate
If Blackwoods can't help, Stew Mac is looking good.

Been there done that. I took the label off a roll I got from Stewi, this one is P220 and the 3M part # is 25369. The product is Stikit Gold and it is a 2 3/4" x 15 yard roll and it is made in USA.bob wrote:When I get back to Aus I'll find a part number and post it here.
Surely the idiots can find it then.
I rang around local abrasive suppliers here in WA, was told that PSA backed paper has limited following in AU and the Velcro was the standard. I called Abrasiflex Pty Ltd, in Bayswater WA as they where considered to carry the largest range. I quoted the number, it was not on their system. The guy was helpful enough, he had me hold while he checked the 3M catalogue and drew a blank.
He ask where I got the part number, I explained from the label right from the roll I got from USA. He explained the 3M USA have a completely different catalogue than here in AU. He said he would love to sell me something but the fact is that I would be better off buying straight from the USA as I would get the product faster and cheaper that way. He went on to explain that the PSA backed stuff we use is common in the furniture industry in USA but not so much here in AU. He said that whilst it may be possible to find the same 3M product here in AU, it is unlikely.
I have not given up all hope of finding this stuff at a reasonable price locally but if we draw a blank, then maybe when the Aussie buck lifts it's game against the USD we can do a group buy, there are deals to be had.

That roll is P320 which is too fine for what I use most often but, it is only $38USD and the roll is 45 yards making it 3 x longer than the roll you will get from Stewi @ $34USD per roll.

Anyone tried this cheap stuff?
The dealer seems to get good feedback on it.
Worth a try at the price I reckon.
