I need 1200 long and 330 wide for back, but I can deal with narrower and make up a multipiece back. backs are about 6mm thick.

For ribs, minimum 220 wide and 700mm long. ribs are 2-3mm thick.

In my wood hunts, I'll look at anything 1200mm long, or anything 220mm wide or wider. They are my magic numbers. I can always glue bits together if the wood is nice enough!

Mathew,

You may want to give Tim Spittle a call on 08 62782187. Tim makes trips to tassie quite often, as I understand most billets are converted down for guitars so the lengths are more manageable when strapping onto a pallet.

However if Tim knew what you wanted as you have described above, I am sure he would be happy to keep an eye open and save some of the odd rare defect free longer lengths from the docking saw.

Cheers

Kim

Black stuff Craig.

I reckon there's only two things you can use with TM.

Ebony or Tiger Myrtle itself.

Cream Ivoriod looks pretty groovy on a tiger myrtle mandolin :D

and as a friend pointed out to me once, once you get ebony bindings under a finish, you may as well have used black plastic as you can't tell the difference, and the black plastic is much easier to get on!

Jim,

I would be interested to know more about the polyurethane...

cheers

Darwin Blues

The Spray Gun was promised last Friday or Monday as it had "already been ordered".Thinking I had waited long enough for the "phone call" I dropped in today to be informed that, in a tone I have heard over and over, "I am sorry but it seems it hasn't actually arrived in Australia yet and may be a month away". I got my money back and went down the road and bought one that cost $50 more but at least I have the tool for the job now.

Have been a little bit side tracked as well by a circa 1940's/50's Bandsaw project but should get some sample painting started next Monday.
