Hi Josh
If you can't buy one, heres some pictures of two of mine, easy to make if you get the parts. I've had these for over 30 years and they work fine.

The pipe is whatever I could get, one is brass or bronze pipe ?? about 5mm thick the other is also brass but poss 2.5 mm thick. Both have a 1000watt radiator element in them held with the porcelain heater fittings. They are both wired through a variable oven thermostat control.

Oh, the safety features were removed for clarity....... do you believe that, you have to be carefull with this model.

Others have used a gas burner aimed up a pipe.

Good luck

Hi Josh
I don’t have a camera at the moment but mine is more primitive than Taffy’s. Just a chunk of steel pipe found at a building site, it is wired to a couple of bricks then wired through the bricks to the bench. Heating is by metho from a couple of tin cans cut in half longways with some sand and volcanic rock in them (they sit inside the pipe on a couple of bits of foldd fire blanket). Does the job and cost nothing.

P.S. I have a bunch of extra bone nuts and saddles, PM me your address and I’ll send you a set. I also have an extra set of full size plans for a classical guitar you're welcome to have if they are of any use to you.

Cheers
James

I love Taffy's bender. It totally validates all the great tips he has. If he was just some dumb ass, he'd of killed himself years ago with that bender.

My grandaughter used these to bend her dulcimer and mandolin sides, when she was 10 and I honestly did not consider them dangerous. When they are on there hot, a good reason not to touch anything other than wood.

Taffy, I wish I had seen your set up before I dropped $250 on my electric bender. Our recycling shop has heaps of old ovens and hot plates for the taking. I had only seen the home made jobs with the butane torch, and I didn't go that route, because I was afraid that I'd always be running out of fuel just when I was in the middle of a bending operation.
