Any interest on a group buy on ebony fret boards?

Post by Allen » Tue Oct 07, 2008 6:44 am

I've just been contacted by Allied Luthiers about ebony fret boards.

Just a quick note to let you know that we are now set up to receive large
quantity orders of Ebony fingerboards at very competitive prices (I've checked
around, we are the cheapest!). These can be drop shipped to you from our
supplier, which reduces the cost immensely. Let me know what quantity and grade
you'd be interested in and I'll be happy to work on a quote for you.
We also have fingerboards available in Brazilian Rosewood, Madagascar Rosewood,
Macassar Ebony...
Is there any interest in this?

I'm also interested thanks Allen.
Around five ebony fretboards, although price will be a factor on the final count.

Yep, prices. Crap, the dollar dived today. Tomorrow it could be up again.
Timing these transaction will be critical.

I posted the mail that I received in it's entirety. I've contacted Allied to get an idea of what we are looking at based on 100 boards.

After posting this offer from Allied, I was contacted by Bob Cefalu at RC Tonewoods, asking to put an offer together. As he is one of our approved vendors and helps make this forum a great place to exchange information, the moderators were pleased to give him the opportunity.

After both proposals have come in, Bob's is the one we are going to go with. Here are the details.

A Grade Ebony FB nice black no knots $11 ea. per 100
B Grade will have some grey streaking $9.00 ea. per 100
B grade These are what you usually see from most suppliers
that sell for about $16 US The A grade are usually about $20-22ea.
Shipping would cost $125 or a $1.25 per board via the Post Office

Bob didn't give me a price for any other species, and I don't know if there would be enough interest in them, but if there is, then speak up. Perhaps we can make this happen at the same time if Bob is willing.

I don't know for certain, but I'd bet my last peso that it's $ US.

At today's exhange rate of .67 that'd be about $16.40AUD for the A Grade and $13.40AUD for the B grade.

The last Top grade Ebony fingerboard I got from Australian Luthier Supplies cost $42.50 so it's a very good price.

Put me down for 10.

It is very much appreciated. Pricing is US dollars. Also available is Indian RW finger boards as well as headplates and bridge blanks in both species.
Quanity is still 100 pc's. I will get some pricing on IRW.

Yes indeed, this is a very good deal. I just check the Australian Luthier Supplies and it's $42.50 for their A Grade. Guitar Australia has what would be considered B grade at $24.50, and Gilet Guitars has what they call A Grade on at $33, but I've ordered their A grade before and it was full of grey stripes.

OK, I've got everyones numbers down so far that have confirmed. I will need Taffy, Graham and Stu to confirm their order. We can let this run for a bit as see where it goes.

Any one else wanting to get in on this group buy? Here's your opportunity. Once we're all stocked up this might not happen again for quite a while.

Rough count is an order of 127 so far.
