Cocobolo/Honduran Rosewood Group Buy
There seems to be a bit of interest here in the Cocobolo.
I've spoken to Bob Cefalu and he'll give a 15% discount to any set of Cocobolo or Honduran Rosewood that you see on his website. If the sets are priced between $95-99 there will be a 10% discount.
http://www.rctonewoods.com
So you'll be able to choose the set or sets that suit your requirements and budget.
I included the Honduran Rosewood as some people may not be willing to take the risk of working with Cocobolo.
I guess the easiest way to do this is to post in this thread what you would like to order (all the sets are numbered) so that Bob can keep tabs on it.
When we have closed the group buy Bob will work out postage and give everyone a total. I'll collect payments from everyone and send it through to Bob, who will then ship the lot to me and I'll distribute it around the country. (charging you whatever the local postage is)
Coco and Honduran Rosewood may not be available to us for much longer so this is a great opportunity to buy some while it's still available.
Honduran Rosewood seems to be most peoples choice as a drop in replacement for Brazilian Rosewood. It certainly taps like Brazilian to my ear.

I'd really like to try Coco it's beautiful stuff and really floats my boat, but as I've said before, I'm allergic to just about every bloody thing. They used to say that I was allergic to the 20th century, but guess what? The 21st ain't that friggin great either. Damn it, what a let down, ha ha..
If there are some kindly ANZLF Brethren or Sistren out there that could mail me a couple shavings of coco so I could do a bit of a test on myself, I'd certainly appreciate it. Couple of shavings and we'll see what we see...
Damn, that's some pretty wood Uncle Bob has there.

Hello Ladies & Gents
Thanks for the opportunity to offer some cocobolo and hrw sets at discounted pricing. The only exception are the sets that are priced at $95 to $99 I can only offer 10% on these sets. I will be listing more of both woods over the next few days so that you will have a better selection to choose from.
Bob thank you for putting this together.
Regards from "The Zootman"
PS I will be following this thread and noting who wants what.

Once I get my sets Ill send you some shavings. If all is ok on the allergy front then you can have one of my sets at cost.
Cheers Martin

I've got some Coco coming that should be here in about ten days.
I'll shoot some up to you when it arrives.

Cocobolo and allergic reactions
Is quite nasty on the allergy front - about 15% of the population is allergic to it. From an article in "Wood" magazine:
My wife plays the recorder, and there are references in the literature to players who have had allergic reactions just from playing Cocobolo recorders. This wood is a well-known sensitizer that can produce a poison-ivy type rash or other reaction in allergic individuals. If you have an allergy history, work cocobolo with full protection: gloves, long sleeves, a dust mask, and a protective skin cream.
