Rimu

Post by 56nortondomy » Mon Dec 07, 2015 1:01 pm

I have a piece of Rimu here and I was wondering if it's suitable for necks, it's starting to get a few cracks, if I don't use it soon it'll be no good.
Thanks Wayne

Rimu for a neck would be a no go!

It's popular for flooring and furniture, but I was warned by a timber guru that it is not know for stability.

I have used it before with success, but that was simply for a carved top, not something requiring the stability that a neck does

This archtop has a 3-piece laminated Rimu neck. So far so good. I'll let you know after a couple of Canadian winters, though.
