Candle Jig for Top / Back Joining
Candle Jig for Top / Back Joining
I had thought for a long time that some sort of jig to "Candle" the centre seam on the back and soundboard to determine if it was a perfect join prior to glue up would be a good idea, but never got around to it as the bulbs of the day just weren't what I thought was appropriate. But after seeing a mate in Hawaii build from assorted parts something that would fit into a T-Slot on his table saw I went searching for parts to do similiar.
Problem is that to get all the parts required was more than buying a couple of pieces from Jaycar. So in a sense it was a win without having to worry about soldering and fabricating all the assorted parts together.
This is just a 500 x 30 x 13 high output LED strip with a 12volt adapter. I laid it on on some scrap 1" ply and did some measurements. Then fired up the CAD/CAM and created the file to CNC machine the appropriate shape. Screwed in place and good to go.....Oh and used it even before the glue had dried on that cover for the wires. Works a treat and far better than going to the window and hoping it's bright enough outside

Great idea Allen. Easier to overlay the soundboard joint on the candle jig at the bench.

That is a very neat idea. Where does one find an LED strip like that? Amazon?
Re: Candle Jig for Top / Back Joining
I got that one at JayCar. If you are not in Australia a Electronics store, or I suppose Amazon. Though the later option was more expensive than the one I purchased.

I'm too lazy for that. I found a window in someone's trash and Bob's you uncle.

Hi, I’m even lazier, I use a window too… but it’s still in the wall at the back of the bench. I can only shoot my boards in the daylight.

Park your Landcruiser outside your window with the headlights on full beam and you'll be able to candle tops all night long!!Taffy Evans wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 6:51 amHi, I’m even lazier, I use a window too… but it’s still in the wall at the back of the bench. Hahaha, Martin where do you get these great ideas? Anyway, I could not stand the noise of a diesel idling away in the backyard.
