Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the right place for this post. I've built two cigar box ukes and one fairly vanilla tenor design.
I now want to try something more ambitious, a replica or near relica of an early Martin or Gibson soprano. Can anyone recommend a source for dimensions, scale length, type of neck joint and the bracing pattern(s) they used?
I don't need plans per se, just basic dimensions, but am happy to purchase plans if they are available. The outside design isn't a problem I've got no shortage of photo's to work from.
I plan on using blackwood rather than koa or mahogany for the body and blackwood or Queensland maple for the neck. Haven't thought about bracing yet but would like to use an Australian timber for that too, maybe bunya or king billy (to date I've used spruce).
I've also been searching for plans for early Hawaiian style instruments if anyone knows a source of information on them too.
Thanks,
Smithy
