Snakewood,York Gum Burl and Birdseye Karri

Just an update that I will put in the Australian Tonewood sections with more detail a little later tonight.
Karri (Eucalytpus diversicolor) The sap is darker than the pink heartwood




York Gum Burl is quite a stunning material with a great range of uses, particularly carve and drop tops plus inlay.

I was with Tim when he ran some of that giant birds eye Karri through the bandsaw. I have never seen anything quite like it. The figure really is quite stunning, I can see it looks good in the photos but it is even better in real life. Even though it was still pretty wet and straight off the saw, it rang like a RKO gong.

I also seen the billet of Aussie Snake Wood while there and it is sure to make exceptional fingerboards. It's a lot like Minnerichi to look at but has a subtle difference. Both are Acacia and wonderfully hard, we are so very lucky to have such a variety of Acacias here in AU, fantastic stuff.
