Re: new fretwire
Hi O.P.....I participated in the recent Jescar group buy recently and bought 2 lb of the EVO wire....I have used it on 3 instruments so far and can say it is very good...it is harder to snip but not what you would call difficult so it should wear better than the NS from Stewmac that I was using up until now....I like the gold colour too!
One thing I didnt like about NS is how quickly a small wear groove would appear on the B string on the first fret....I think the EVO should be much better and longer wearing....
Regards
John

You can buy small lots of jescar and evo from C.B. Gitty. I have used it on my last two and it was really painless. I used the stewmac Japanese fret saw and the wire fit perfectly. Comes pre-bent too which is a bonus. Bear in mind I am still a rank amateur though
.
As a long time player though I can say that it is holding up very well (the NS wire, haven't tried the evo yet). 1 year, every day play and very little wear and I am fairly hard on frets.

Concure with woodrat re: the EVO wire. My wire of choice, wears better and works better in my opinion.

Re: new fretwire
I wouldn't be surprised if Stewmac fretwire comes from Jescar.
The Luthiers Mercantile fretwire certainly does.
Gibson uses Jescar fretwire with as .028 tang. ( I've got a couple of rolls of it from a mis-order - if anyone needs some with that tang size just let me know - it's useless to me.)
I also wouldn't be surprised of most of the fretwire coming out of the US is from that factory.
