Hi All,

For a while I have been stumbling across some nice slabs of timber , for example the Tiger Myrtle that Todd Missed out on, and have wanted to have the ability to Resaw , but with limited space I have not found anything that meets what I consider the right specs for resawing , but maintains a small footprint, I found One in the USA , but dismissed it becasue it was not available here , I get regulars newsletters from all sorts of suppliers and noticed that Gregory Machinery were importing The Laguna Brand of machinery , which was the one from the USA that I liked, It was a Month or so before Gregory had all the Laguna stuff up on thier website, But when they did, sure enough they were stocking the LT14SUV The first shipment went pretty quick and after a discussion with my Machinery mentor ( the Woodrat) I placed an order and waited for the next shipment to arrive , I received it yesterday , and what a machine it is , beautiful stuff.

It's Unique in that it has the foot print of a 14 inch bandsaw, but the features of an 18 inch , it has 14 inches of resaw capacity , a 3hp motor , a footbrake the famous Laguna Guide system and the ability to take a 1 inch blade , I thinks it's really well made , easy to setup and assemble and from my trials this afternoon , just the ticket for resawing , I'll keep you posted as I use it more , the woodrat is coming down to cast his critical eye over it , so I'm sure he will give his appraisal also.

Carbatec 305mm disk sander
110mm x 150mm pneumatic drum sleeve for my grinder

Now the good stuff

Veritas DX60 block plane I had use of one for 6 weeks and couldn't belive how good it is

Lee Valley squirrel tail curved bottom palm plane

Nice saw Paul. It will be good to be set up for resawing, just don't try that thin KB first.

COOL cutter Paul!!!!! I'd be very interested in a brutal review, my 17" carba-tec 1" re-saw not cutting the mustard,your machinery mentor could advise,something to do with extra ballast in the vertical column!!!...I'd rather upgrade than destroy.
Any idea where these little beauties are produced??

I see only one dust port, my Carba has two, good too know if yours has efficient extraction from this point only.

any chance of a internal pic of driving wheels??

I'm sure, between your good self & the Wood meister, you'll pick the eyes out of this big boy toy.

Ok after I got over the workshop I went on to their site and checked it out
very impressive especially when you consider the price and what I am using at present,for me just being able to wheel it around is another added bonus,I can mess up one area and then move to another ??seriously I suffer from a lack of space so all my largish items have to be easily moveable

I really like the reduced footprint to depth of cut ratio it offers, it makes LT14SUV perfect for so many in our craft with restricted floor space.

Just wondering if Laguna have managed to come up with a more convenient way of adjusting the fence for band drift than the standard 2 bolt system??

Just reading the flyer PDF Craig and it says right at the end $1495 but seeing as it's a review from "American Woodworker" I'm guessing that's the U.S price. The U.S dollar isn't too bad at the moment so assuming Gregory's don't add too much, would be a good time to buy if you are in the market for a decent saw.

Current price from Gregory's is $1595 but Allen Gregory told me that there will be 10% increase in the future.

I know that the next container load is at the current price but I'm not sure after that.

it's still the same 2 bolt system for the standard fence to adjust drift. The only way to make drift adjustment easier is to upgrade to a Driftmaster fence but that is $455 AU.

That's not wee , Close though, I find one of those stains every time a customer picks up a new guitar.

I tried a Peice of 9mm ply as an experiment and that worked well.

I ordered a Carbatec 17 Inch for work , and It's Fantastic for what we do , but it did not cut the mustard for a good resaw machine IMHO. These are Made In China, Designed By Laguna and Built to the same specs/design as the units from Italy , it does have two Dust Ports , the second is under the Motor, I'll get a Picture of the Internals for you.

Still the Same system, Not to much of a Pain to adjust in practice ,not enough to justify the cost of the driftmaster fence.

I intend to buy the resaw King Blade , they also have a blade with a similar concept to the wood slicer with variable 3-4 tpi , It will take a 1 inch blade , I am Currently using a 3/4 inch woodslicer. I'll let you know how it goes after some serious slicing.

The Service from Gregory machinery was Excellent , the price was $1595 , + $ 170 for the mobility kit and freight to Newcastle was $150.

The quality in my opinion is excellent and The QA cetainly made sure the product was defect free , If I was being Picky I would say the Rack and Pinion for adjusting the Blade Guard height is a little ordinary as far as feel goes , but work fine.

The height is one issue, the power is more of an issue , 3/4 hp just won't get through most hardwoods.

I had a look at the bandsaw, and it's from Newcastle Tool Co. Do you know if they still exist? Date of manufacture was in 86 and madein Taiwan. It's a good saw, and all that much better since I got Duginske's book and gave it a bit of a tune up. Needs more attention, but a new blade and a bit of reading gives me a pretty bloody good saw. Gonna make a few attachments for it in the future, but it cuts sooooo much better since I read the book....
