Archtop refret

Post by rocket » Fri Dec 23, 2011 4:31 pm

I've got a refret job to do on an arch top with a set neck, any advice about replacing the frets on the extension?
I thought that pressing or hammering the 16th through to 21 into the original slot is probably not on, and maybe widen the slot or file the tang down a bit and let some glue do the holding in! anyone come across this before?
Cheers
Rod.

I use a jig that clamps onto the neck just past the heel and extends a standard fret pressing tool over the area of concern, then just press in as per normal, pretty sure stewmac has a similiar device
