Alaska Specialty Woods

Post by Bob Connor » Wed Oct 19, 2011 6:18 pm

Hi all

I've added a new preferred vendor to our list in Alaska Specialty Woods (not to be confused with Alaska Tonewood)

Brent Cole has been supplying a lot of the Sitka to major players in American and global luthiery for a number of years and his service and product are exceptional.

I'm sure he'll drop by the new section in a few days and I'm hoping he might have a special or two for ANZLF members.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

Hi all,

Thats great Bob, welcome Alaska Specialty Woods.
I recently bought some sitka soundboards from Brent, service was great & package took about 10 days to arrive on my doorstep.
Got a good deal as the sitka tops had minor imperfection on top right side, so perfect for cutaways, I will use them on my next few projects.
cheers wayne . . .

+1 for Alaska Specialty Woods. I've placed several orders with Brent. Excellent tonewoods and bracing stock. Exceptionally great customer service. Had a slight glitch with one order, so I called Brent around dinner time on a Saturday night. Ended up talking for about an hour, part of which we agreed on a solution that made me very happy. He ended up going WAY above and beyond what was necessary for excellent customer service. He's the real deal.

Anyone looking for top grade Sitka will not go wrong for service or price by dealing with Brent at Alaska Specialty Woods in my experience.

I've had several orders from Brent and recommend his wood, its generally good quality and is very well priced. This is my experience.

First order was for some archtop wedges which arrived and were too narrow to make the 17" archtop in the Benedetto book. I spoke with Brent and he sent me some more wedges and charged me the mando rate for the ones I already had so that worked out fine. I see now he has an option to select large wedges to make larger guitars, this is a good idea.

Out of about 10 AAA sitka flat tops I have had mixed results with. 2 I have used so far have clear run out under finish and 3 of the unused tops have swirls in the grain or folds across the top that can not be avoided. But this is not enough to stop me ordering from him. His prices are very good and the wedges I have received since have been beautiful.

Could do without the right wing politics that comes on his site and with his emails but I don't mind a bit of a laugh every now and again.

Cheers

Could be worse...some tonewood dealers hand out free abuse with their merchandise.

I can attest to that. Though he may have gone away for a while. He will no doubt be back to pillage again.

Brent however has a great rep!

Brent Cole supplies good products at a very good price, and follows through with what I believe is superlative customer service. I believe most, or perhaps all, of his spruce comes from standing deadwood and that appeals to me. If you order from him, don't be surprised if you receive a personal email from him out of the blue--clarifying the order or letting you know that it has shipped. ...Or just plain thanking you for the order. If you have any questions or comments at all, he'll be very helpful and responsive. I'm a hobby builder, so I don't buy much from anyone, but Brent always makes me feel like my order is as important as anyone's. I think he's first-rate.
