Sheoak dreadnaught

Post by Peter Young » Fri Jul 22, 2011 10:03 am

As promised Kim ... some photos of a full sized deardnaught.

This one is a Maton size and shape.

Back & sides ... sheoak from Tim
Bindings ... tiger myrtle from Tim
Bridge / F board / H stock ... all from my stash of sheoak
Neck is rock maple from Carbatec

My son has a birthday in December so he ended up with a combined B / day, Exmas present.
Personally I find it hard to play now that I have played so many smaller bodied guitars.

Who is this man .... note the classical pose .... despite his protestations .... he can play.

As mention in another post, this sheoak from Tim has better tap resonance than I have heard from many other timbers. I know that Tim had some posted a while ago and I hope you have been lucky enough to score some. You will recognise it and know it from the tap.

Nice looking combination of wood there and nice to see others putting maple necks on acoustics.

Jim

Someone please turn up the Tele!

Thanks Jim

I like maple .... it is hard but good to work. You can lay into it and not worry too much. It also finished well and feels good to play. I thought it may be too heavy but this guitar has turned out well balanced and overall no heavier than a Maton. Also, you can use it back sawn.
