My friend Carlos

Post by DarwinStrings » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:38 pm

This is my Cyclone Carlos wind fall, almost. I still have one more log to get and that will be it as not only have I run out of driveway space I am also not sure where to store it for drying. A few bits will take a truck ride south and the two long ones on the right of the pic need to have the branch ends cut off (I have arty plans for those big chunks off the end that are no good for guitars). So I guess now I have to get around to a noisy date with a chainsaw and losing a few neighbourhood friends.

The last log is still standing, it is in a backyard. It shifted in the ground and leaned up against a house so the owner had the crown cut out and will have the trunk dropped soon, I will have to break it down on site to get it out of the back yard rather than get a expensive crane to crane it over the house, as it is a nice long one I might mill it into cabinet boards rather than guitars though.

That would be the sort of wood I would be preferring for guitar wood for a while Kim. Looks like A freakin mahogany. :D
