Concert Uke scale length & fret positions
Hi all
I have made a new friend up in NT who just bought a uke kit from O/S for a concert uke. I have just spent 30 mins trying to find info for him on scale length (15-16" from what I can see) and fret positions, but good info is not forthcoming. Can anyone point me to a good site on this?
Thanks. Frank.

Re: Concert Uke scale length & fret positions
soprano: 13"
concert: 15"
tenor: 17"
baritone:19"+
to convert to mm multiply by 25.4
use the stewmac fret calculatorhttp://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator
the only other issue is whether the neck joins at the 12th or 14th fret.

Thanks Liam - must admit, never looked at that Fret Calc on the Stewmac site before. Very helpful. Frank

Re: Concert Uke scale length & fret positions
Guys - looking at my mate's uke kit tonight. It comes with a pretty good set of plans, but does not provide indicative thicknesses to use for back and top.
He says the wood is Black Walnut. Are you able to give me a safe thickness for back & top.
If I can also check side thickness on the plan of around 0.18mm - does that sound ok - getting pretty thin......
Thanks. Frank.

Re: Concert Uke scale length & fret positions
Top for a concert using a hard wood top, safe at 1.8 to 2.0 mm. I've seen them a lot thinner than this though, but I wouldn't go there on my first instrument.
Back the same but I tend to keep them a little thicker than the top so if the top was 1.8 the back would be 2.0mm
Sides I make all of mine 1.8 mm thick, no mater what size of uke.

what Allen said
I think the decimal point might have missed its mark on that side thickness. 1.8mm
