Anyone making their own purflings? Using a vacuum bag system, etc?
Making your own purflings?
Re: Making your own purflings?
I've made lots of them. Done it both laminating them onto the binding stock , then slicking them up, and individual pieces, not laminated. That was a bit like wrestling an octopus installing b/w/b on both the bottom and next to the top and back in one go.
I didn't have a vacuum set up back then. I clamped them up using cauls lined with packing tape to keep the pieces from sticking where they weren't suppose to.
But I did get a demo from Tim Spittle earlier in the year using the vacuum clamp method. Perhaps he will post a picture of his set up, as it was pretty slick.

Hi Allen, Thanks! I don't have a vac bag setup yet, but I think it would be the best thing
Re: Making your own purflings?
I should add that I now buy in bulk my purflings from Gurian and then laminate them on individually to the bindings as I need them. I use HHG and it really is very easy to do. I've posted the process somewhere on the forum, but I've got to do some again soon, so will take some more photo's and post again.
