I have been struggling a bit to integrate a new humidifier into my shop and although that is going well my hygrometers are acting up and I am not sure what reading to believe.
My Abbeon is my standard that I send back to Abbeon every 6-9 months to have calibrated but the last time I got it back from them I suspected that they did not calibrate it correctly. Anyway I decided to make a wet bulb and have the capability of knowing for sure what my RH is AND, as a bonus, I am going to use the wet bulb to calibrate my Abbeon myself going forward.
I just sourced and ordered 4 lab thermometers but I only need two for the wet bulb but I wanted extras thinking that these would be more accurate than my digital for my HHG bath.
If this all works out the plan is to use my own wet bulb every 3 months to calibrate the Abbeon and then I should have something believable here to determine the RH.
Does anyone here have any experience with building a wet bulb? I have some models that I got off the web but I would be interested in seeing other folks ideas for this. I can use either a fan or the vac to draw air across the thing when I get it made.
Thanks
Wet Bulb
This is how the one I bought on ebay for about $12.00 looks. Simple enough. Ambient air, dry thermometer, and wick with a bottle of water and an air passage for the wet bulb. I just put mine in the path of the fan I keep running in my shop all the time. I have two separate charts, and use the average between them. Only minor differences though. I'm sure altitude has something to do with the differences, and there are probably altitude corrected charts somewhere, but I don't know if it makes a lot of difference.
