One on the left is one wide arsed mother! Both look good though Jeff. What's the timber?... It's got a nice dark look to it, almost Brazilian like.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

Looking good Jeff. Are the holes drilled through the back braces for weight reduction? Probably a good thing on the left guitar. What's with the patch in the upper right bout of the wide body and the different shape heel blocks?

Maurie,
I'm just guessing but I'd say the patch is going to be a bevelled edge, similiar to the one on the lower bout, but to ease acces to the upper frets.
Kinda like a cutaway you have when your not having a cutaway.

Jeff,
Are they 4 piece backs? (or is it just a straight lined big change in grain)
either way they are looking good.

Hi Jeff my friend!

Wow both of these two guitars look fantastic but your guitars always look fantastic! :)

I am wondering about the seal coat, or that is what it looks like it might be, that we are seeing on the inside of both bodies. Is that shellac? What ever it is is it sprayed and how many coats if more than one to get it to look like it does?

Guys I think that Craig is correct - that patch on the upper bout is going to be one of Jeff's signature bevels which are very cool. Here is a pic of one of Jeff's with the bevel from a while back.

Beautiful looking work Jeff.

Not the first time I've seen the holes in bracing - and I think it has merit. A basic way to reduce weight with little detrimental effect on strength. I've seen it used on I-beam shaped bracing too.

Nick - I think you'll find that the timber is Malaysian Blackwood. I'm guessing that by both its appearance, but also the MBW used in his description.

Jeremy.

Thanks Folks!
Hesh bro! thanks for covering the body!
Yep, those white patches are for the bevels. I used a local wood which is is commonly used for a lot of Fender bodies. Its light and easy to work with.
I sanded everything inside (before gluing ) with 320 grit and shellac it with a little of walnut oil.
I decided to drill holes on the back braces because I'm using another local wood 'Agathis' which is quite stiff. Besides reducing the mass, its also lower the pitch.
Both guitars are commisioned by a repeat customer for both his parents ( age about 80+) Its a 2 piece MBW.
