Gig bag for dreadnought

Post by vandenboom » Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:28 pm

Folks - not really a building question, but here goes anyway.
Unlike the first 6 guitars made which I gave to kids and friends, I plan to keep and use the current one myself. I have always carried acoustics in hard cases and have been considering trying a good quality gig bag for this dread. I have had a look in a few local stores eg. Billy Hyde but not really happy with anything I have seen so far.

I stumbled across the following possibilities :
Colorado gig bag - insulated, weather protection US$160, O/S and so probably costly to ship
http://www.finecases.com/browse/colorad ... -5943.html

- Gator slinger case deluxe - $120 locally
http://www.billyhydemusic.com.au/shop/v ... se-deluxe/

- ACCESS Bags and Cases - O/S and no prices on website
http://www.accessbagsandcases.com/ab3da11.htm

A soft case can only provide so much protection from knocks, but I'm looking for good padding. Insulation from heat and weather also sounds like a good things to try and get.

Does anyone have any experience here?

As an alternate option just to make things even more confusing, Cedar Creek has great Luthier pricing on their hard cases. You can get current pricing if you contact Denis at Cedar Creek. It is far less than what their website lists at retail. I've bought a few. Shipping was about the $120 US mark from memory.

I imagine that it's going to be the same for anything that size coming from overseas.

Not bought their dread case. But their 000/0M case and Size 5 were spot on for my instruments.
