Who's going to do that??MBP wrote:If it is just a magnet that has lost magnetism they can be re-magnatized.
Rod, I'd still make S/M aware of the problem and pass on serial numbers.rocket wrote:I actually bought a bucket load of the of the bloody things from Stu-mac, they've already said they'd replace at no extra cost, but i intend to return the whole lot of them, S/M are going to credit me the pups and the postage. As far as Benedetto or Seymour Duncan is concerned i can't see how they can do any more for me, lost time , effort, and materials. as you probably realise these things don't just screw on like a PAF.![]()

Any one with two strong magnets. You can but them fairly cheap and are a must have for people doing heaps of electric guitar work.kiwigeo wrote:Who's going to do that??MBP wrote:If it is just a magnet that has lost magnetism they can be re-magnatized.
Cheaper for the manufacturer to simply issue a replacement pickup than freight it back to the US, service it and freight it back to Australia. The freight alone would probably cover a large part of cost of a new pickup.
You still have to gut the pickup.......as Rod stated, it's a sealed unit.MBP wrote:Any one with two strong magnets. I am only talking about the one that is already installed.
Ive never remagnetized a pickup but dont you need to know A. which way the poles/arms are oriented and B. polarity of same?MBP wrote:You still have to gut the pickup.......as Rod stated, it's a sealed unit.
What for?
They had a run of completely dead pups at one stage.....this shouldn't happen if QC is doing it's jobNick wrote:Actually looking at the underside photo of the pickup they used to seal them completely (you couldn't even see the magnet) , I'm guessing they've had a number of failures of this nature and so I'd say they 'adapted' their manufacturing process so that they can easily recover the blades & magnet without destroying the whole lot....a sad state of affairs if this is the case seeing as it carries a respected builder's name, hopefully he's as pissed as you are that SD are cheapening his name. Mind you, with the number they're churning out perhaps ten dud pups every 1000 they consider it as acceptable.
