Schertier Slot Head Tuners

Post by Peter Lynch » Thu Nov 25, 2021 7:15 pm

I fitted a set of these tuners to my last build . The tuners have a 10mm collar and 6mm post . I found these really hard to fit , has anyone some tips how these can be fitted accurately , I am afraid I made a bit of mess of it .

Thanks

I haven't fitted these tuners but when I fit 3 ganged tuners to my classicals I disassemble the tuners and use the hole on the plate where the cog normally to mark out the exact centre point of the barrel hole.

I haven't used them either, but I would drill full depth at 6mm then open out for the collar with a metric step drill that has (at least) 6, 8 and 10mm steps. Picking up the original 6mm bore with the 6mm step should keep everything concentric. Best done with a pillar drill to keep the bores square to the headstock edge. If necessary, grind off the bits of the step drill that might get in the way (e.g. if the step drill is too long).

Try a good engineering supply shop. They should have a 10mm counterbore with a 6mm guide. ( Used for counterboring cap screw heads)

Online aircraft engineering tool suppliers usually stock them.
