Well here I am in Mountain View, California!
The temps been in the thirties since I got here Monday, back home in Sydney, this week is usually the coldest of the year, so I picked a bloody good time to escape. Lotsa bushfires around here, the sky is pretty hazey 'cause of all the smoke, just like back home in the summer.
I can't believe how bloody nice the people are here, everyone is just so polite and thoughtful - even when they don't know I'm not from around here, and there's nothing in it for them. Maybe that's just because anyone can go into Kmart and buy a shotgun, I dunno. As much as I don't like to admit it, people are nicer here than back home in Sydney.
My laptop died pretty much as soon as I got here - completely dead, so I just went out and bought me a new one on the company dollar. Fuck it, right? Thought I might get in trouble with the bean counters back home over that, then my boss rings and says she wants me to buy her one too! They are so damn cheap over here (HP pavilion dv6000 for $650!). I guess if you're going to have computer trouble, Silicon Valley is the place to do it!
They sell booze just about everwhere here, go into a 7eleven and buy a 1 liter bottle of Jim Beam for like $13. Shit, this is my kind of place!
Not gonna have time to do any guitar related stuff this trip, the missus is pregnant back home and my 5 year old daughter misses me teribbly (and I her). So as much as I'd like to stick around, I'm in a hurry to get back home.
I'm going home in a few days, but I'll be back again in six weeks or so. That'll be a two week trip. Actually, It'll be a two week trip every month after that til May next year. Bring on the frequent flyer miles!

Say the ground has not been shaking where you are...... yet has it?
You are in one of the most beautiful places in the US IMHO. One can surf in the morning and drive a couple of hours into the mountains and ski in the afternoon.
The food is incredible too in the bay area with anything that you want available too.
Are you planning on seeing the San Francisco sites - the warf, China town, Geridelli square, Golden Gate park, the hookers......., Trans America building, etc?
You probably saw Moffit Field from the freeway, the 101, when headed south from SFO. Did you see the blimp hangers? They always remind me of my ex......

So I'm in Silicon Valley, my computer is suffering a lingering death. One of the signs was a message saying "sorry Google could not be found".
In disbelief, I look out the window of my office here, right at Google world headquarters next door, and start shouting and pointing "it's right out there you stupid fucking machine"!

No the ground hasn't been shaking. I didn't even think of that. I designed and built a small chemical plant that we're selling to a company here and thought I'd thought of everything, now I find out that it has to be bolted down due to earthquakes. Wouldn't mind experiencing one while I'm here, just big enough to make life interesting without bringing the building down on top of me. Maybe a 5 pointer to shake things up.
Did go past moffet field on 101 south but didn't see the big titties, I'll look out for them on the way back. Not much time to play on this trip, maybe on one of the next ones.

You probably heard this one mate but it is just so on the money about MS.
A helicopter was flying around above Seattle yesterday when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position and course to steer to the airport.
The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign, and held it in the helicopter's window. The pilot's sign said ''WHERE AM I?'' in large letters.
People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign, and held it in a building window. Their sign said ''YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER.''
The pilot smiled, waved, looked at his map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely.
After they were on the ground, the co-pilot asked the pilot how the ''YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER'' sign helped determine their position.
The pilot responded ''I knew that had to be the MICROSOFT building because, similar to their help-lines, they gave me a technically correct but completely useless answer.''

Home at last!
Loved every minute in the US, but boy am I glad to be home with my family. My 5 year old daughter hasn't let me out of her sight all day.
I think I was the only non-pilgrim on the plane. They were all coming over here for world youth day, and to see the old bloke in the funny hat. 300 catholics, and me.
Had to sit next to a priest the whole way (I'm an agnostic), and the funny thing is that we became pretty firm friends by the end of the trip. Best conversation I've had in years. Exchanged contact details and all. Go figure, I guess good people, is good people, never mind the stripe.
