Here is the latest Luthier Tips du Jour video. - In this video I show some really cool machines that every luthier would love to have in their shops.

Time ya got a bandsaw mate. Even with a 14" bandie you can do a surprising amount of re-sawing.

I would love to see a video or read on how to set up a bandsaw to do its best work, how to fine-tune it for cutting even a 90 mm neck without sounding like a wounded animal or resisting like I am cutting marble. That is what happens to me every time I am thining necks, so I don't even dream of cutting a billet for tops and backs and I would really like to be able to do that.
When I watch John Bogdanovich and his Bandsaw I drool and dream of it, but how much would that beast cost? Pic below.

They could be using some unknown force, their Chi or something to shave wood like that. I have an old Japanese plane that is just for show because the skill to set it up to do those shavings it is a lifetime learning process on its own.

They could value add and market the maple shavings as "Brown Eye Toilet Paper" -R

Here is a video I did a number of years ago about setting up and using bandsaws. Hopefully you can pick up a trick or two.

I had Barry Kerr, who has now retired, cut some Sitka for me and he used a bandsaw with a 'Stellite" tipped blade which did very fine cuts. - Ross
