Referring to the Gore/Gilet books, I read that with the lattice braced guitars there is a Hex-cartwheel mode of top vibration. Worth a discussion here perhaps? Please chime in. So I googled images of that mode and found this interesting photo of a tortoise shell and some Chladni patterns. There is much speculation regarding this co incidence on the web, from musical physics to new age philosophy. (btw: What do you get when you play New Age music backwards?-NEW AGE MUSIC!) One of the theories I found here for further reading-http://www.interferencetheory.com/Harmo ... page10.htm

Coincidence
I was machining the other day and Inadvertently made a kind of tuning fork it was then I thought if you are searching for the perfect Vibrating instrument nature could be the way to go ,we have copied some good gear from nature.

John ,of way too many things to do.

The whole world of engineering looks at nature for answers, we've still got a long way to go to try and match her.routout wrote:CoincidenceI was machining the other day and Inadvertently made a kind of tuning fork it was then I thought if you are searching for the perfect Vibrating instrument nature could be the way to go ,we have copied some good gear from nature.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

The hexagon is one of nature's lowest energy shapes....columnar basalt, bubbles, honey combs.....the shape can be found all through nature and in man made structures as well.

Sorry for the lack of explanation.....I'm just back from a 40 day hitch on an offshore oil rig so my mind is not up to delving into the wonderful thermodynamics....
