A 21-year-old woman is in hospital in a "serious condition" after her selfie backfired.

The Russian woman found a 9mm handgun at her Moscow office, thought to have been left behind by a security guard, and shot herself in the head by accident, the Independent reported.

She posed for a selfie with the gun in one hand and her phone in the other.

However, she accidentally pressed the trigger on the gun and shot herself in the temple.
