With so many talented people here I thought it might be fun to see some of the other things we have built over the years.

This is just a small sample of my various work.

This is a rowing skiff I built, 16' long, 70 lbs.




This bridge was a contract build on a private 5,000 acre estate.
It is 45' long and 6' wide.



Here is one of my scratch built wind generators.
8ft6 dia. turbine blades. Fiberglas blades from mold set I built.
Handwound permanent magnet alternator. 1000plus watts in 28mph winds

Very very nice work there Brother Tom, i really love that boat in the first pic, think i will have to try a shot at that one day, Lord willing!

Great projects thati'm sure you had fun accomplishing!



Built a deck for the trailer and the little shed at the back, that was my biggest woodworking project that i have made, prior to building guitars.

I had a thing for robots for a while. Never got to grips with assembler so I stuck mainly to BEAM style. Its close work but there is an elegance in some of these circuits. Its amazing how many behaviours can be mimiced by relatively simple switches. Most animals (and I suspect humans) process a lot of information at the limb level which bypasses the brain, think reflexes when you burn yourself etc.

This one collects energy and at a preset threshhold vibrates and moves around.



A walker, a lesson in balance, the legs move in 180 degree cycles.



This one collects energy during the day and flashes all night.



Ive been making flutes both transverse and vertical for years. Ive had many attempts at conical bores for recorders but cant afford the metal working lathe Im told I need.



I also love turning timber. A piece of camphor laurel and Black Hearted Sassafras.

I like the little robots, if I had the time I would like to try that.
I like woodturning also, nice looking work. I have also made some bamboo flutes years ago, I sucked at playing them so I gave them to
those that could.

Your little sailboat looks good, (I would call it a pram)
At first glance I thought the partial paddle in the water on the starboard
side looked like a shark fin. 20 yrs since Ive sailed, I miss it.

Tom my friend this is a great thread - thanks for starting it!!!

I never built much of any thing but just before I started guitar building I was trying my hand at model boat building.

This one is my second and is not done yet. Someday I will have to rig it and finish it.

I didn't finish my 2nd one either, Hesh. My first looked like yours but I did do all the rigging and completed it. My second was a big paddle wheel riverboat which I got about 3/4 of the way through and just sort of lost interest.

Pretty well the first thing I ever built in wood, besides helping to build a house or two was a cedar strip canoe when I was 23. Unfortunately the pictures of that boat have been lost in several moves around the world, and the canoe was sold before we moved to Australia. Here is a picture of an almost identical one though.

I have always built 'stuff', one old passion is traditional bows and arrows. Here I am shooting a sitka spruce arrow with an ash / birch long bow I built last year. The picture was taken around midnight; during summer it never gets dark up here in the land of the midnight sun...

Sabastiaan my friend yes the model boat building was to be a long lonely winter activity since sailing was an obsession of mine most of my life. Until I got sick I was an avid windsurfer and taught sailing and windsurfing for the University of Michigan.

It was a great excuse to have the opportunity to rescue coeds in bikinis when there was an off shore breeze......

Hey, I'm a blue grass fan, I like banjos! ('Like' is perhaps a stretch, tolerate. Have come to terms with. ) No, that was most likely a Swedish tourist. You can never be to sure, they might be Swedish tourists.

Arnt, you know all those little pieces of hardwoods make great inserts for selfnock arrows. I haven't made a bow I really like yet. I'm still in love with my Polar Bear target bow. I have a jig I picked up for footings, but I haven't had an opportunity to use it. The archery ranges up here are too far away or too expensive to join. One of these days.
