Has anyone noticed the similarities between the wood "Durian" supplied by random Australian hardware stores now and the wood "Meranti" that was supplied before the Durian landed on the shelves? Does anyone reckon it's the same wood with a title change?

Re: "Durian"
I get that they are a different species and know the fruit of the Durian and that meranti is Shorea spp. but I am not convinced. Certainly the wood they carry has sapwood and heart but in the stack I looked at yesterday labeled as Durian it seemed to vary the way Shorea Spp. vary. I can't help but wonder if I am having the wool pulled over my eyes by someone be it the retailer or perhaps the country of origin.
