Higher ratio "banjo-like" tuners?

Post by veed » Thu Apr 10, 2014 5:22 am

Hey guys,

I'm really having difficulty finding banjo style tuners (planetary?) that would have around 10:1 or higher ratio for my lyra guitar. I've seen those from Steinberg that are 40:1 but that's not useful for my situation...

Anybody has a clue if they exist and where to order them?

Greetings from Slovenia :)

Stewart-McDonald and LMI both sell verious brands of planetary banjo tuners with 4:1 ratios. Is that too high for your needs.

Thank you, but the ratio I'm searching for should be similar to guitar ratios, 10:1, 12:1, 16:1... around that numbers.

You could try Pegheds. They do planetry tuners that look like traditional ebony tuning pegs. They have a 4:1 version for nylon strings and a 16:1 version for steel strings.

This may be an option, thank you, I'll be also glad for other hints. I've read somewhere 16:1 banjo tuners existed but went out of the production...
