Hi folks, just started my first acoustic guitar.
I'm ready to glue the neck block on but not sure where to mark the 14fret.
I'm getting conflicting information on the neck length from nut to 14th fret.
Is it 360mm, 359mm or 357 or other?
Scale length is 25.4
Cheers

Re: Beginner - Neck length question
25.4" is often a nominal scale length term used for the Martin scale length which is actually 25.34
But some builders use a true 25.4
Are you using a precut board or cutting slots yourself?

Welcome to the forum Pat.
I plugged your scale length into my fret location spreadsheet and came up with 357.8mm as distance from nut to 14th fret position. Spreadsheet attached.
Heres a calculator on the Stewmac site which is useful: http://www.stewmac.com/Shopping;jsessio ... 17E9E2B122

Wow - you folks are great!!!!!!!!!!! - and such rapid replies.
All I understand is that its a dreadnought shape.
I have some lovely Mulga for the fretboard from Tim Spittle (no slots).
Thank you

Just remember when gluing up a heel, to allow for some wood to be removed for your tenon and also for setting your neck anglePat Hawkins wrote:I'm ready to glue the neck block on but not sure where to mark the 14fret.
