Wot! not another machine?
Hi all, I decided a fair while ago that there is no way could/needed to fit in another machine in my shop. But with a particular task I had I needed a scroll saw that could cut accurately through thicker timber [neck blank], the Dremal scroll saw I've had for 30 years just was not up to it.
A mate of mine said I could borrow his [pictured] so I took it home and set it up on a bench in the repairs shop. It worked so good I thought I have to have one. My mate said I could buy his off of him as he had not used it in four years, make an offer he said. So not knowing what this model was worth I started at a price I could afford and he kept say no too high, no too high. In the end I got it for a carton of VB stubbies.
Can any of you please tell me what it might have cost back in its day, I understand Carbatec used to carry it. This may give me an idea of where it stands in the quality range. It's variable speed, pin/pinless blades with dust blower and it's heavy.
Here's the job it done in the Qld maple and ebony.......
Test
Unfinished neck
Cheers

A nice lil machine Taffy, congrats! But... are VB stubbies so expensive? Seems not to be a good idea to be thirsty in Charters Towers.

I guess it is of great quality, or you would not like it. I only know that cheap ones are worse than nothing.Taffy Evans wrote: It worked so good I thought I have to have one. [...]

It looks fairly solidly made Taff, good thirst quenching score.

Looks like a nice tool, Taffy. I've had thoughts about them too, but have yet to look too far into it...
Markus: Beer down here is ridiculously expensive. When I left the US, I was buying a carton of beer for not much more than I started paying for a 6-pack here. Couple years back, we went to Europe and beer was less than half the cost than in Australia. It's all "Sin Taxes." And, they've just gone up again!

Re: Wot! not another machine?
This little baby cost me just around $48, had to get it quick before my mate lost his thirst. I figured that's a good deal, including six packets of blades and no freight costs.

Excellent deal if you ask me Taffy.
Long live the beer economy

Well done! Considering what you got in exchange I was afraid beer in North Queensland would cost even ten times more than that!Taffy Evans wrote:This little baby cost me just around $48, had to get it quick before my mate lost his thirst. Hey Taffy.
Nice one - there are certainly jobs it would be handy for. They were a decent little machine too, no longer available as with many other Delta products.
As to price, RRP was $299 from memory... May have crept up to $319 when the dollar was bad and $269 on the occasional big special. So your price was pretty much a bargain
