Wow!...what a wonderful, creative, innovative and generous group we have in this forum.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. They all have great merit and all have been absorbed, if not for this project, but another. The various explanations have increased my understanding of stringed instrument construction.

Thank you to Steve for so generously and rapidly preparing the fret templates for this Concert Ukulele project, as well making an insert template to be used with a Luthier Tool 'Slot Cutting Jig'.

Sincere thanks to all.

Well done Steve :cl :cl
As a bit of an aside, I saw an add in an American woodworking online newsletter I get, for Epilog brand Laser systems. Just for giggles I thought I'd just enquire about them as they look like an extremely versatile bit of kit. Unfortunately they have an NZ distributor (read, add $$$$$) who contacted me with a brochure (and no pricing) so I flicked an email back enquiring about the price. For their smallest machine (the Zing 16 touted as a "Small size, entry level laser system") which has affordability listed as a bullet point and 16"X12"X4.5" working area.......16 grand! As I say, the NZ distributor has probably stuck a fair whack on it but at that price I think I'll pass. I wouldn't have enough work for it to justify that cost.

I had inquired about 2 years ago from the Aussie distributor as well Nick. Don't you worry about being the only one touched up. These guys were going for the whole colonoscopy. When I commented that it was over 4 times the US price, I was told it was for the local service!
