Angled Bridge Pin Holes

The Stewmac plans for the Weissenborn copy I'm building show the bridge pins going in on an angle of around 80º which I assume is to prevent the strings from pulling the pins out. The plans also show a small screw being used to secure the bridge to the top. I would appreciate some feedback as to whether either of these two measures is warranted?

I used the angled pins, but not the screw. The angled pins work well with the sloping face of the bridge.
If you are using the fretwire saddle You are Ok with the saddle near the front of the bridge as original.
If using a bone saddle make sure you leave at least 5mm of wood in front of the saddle face
