Maton AP5 pickup

Post by christian » Wed May 22, 2013 1:06 pm

Hi,

Has any one out there installed a Maton AP5 pickup? and know where I might be able to purchase one?
I have a customer who is requesting one, and I know little or anything about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Christian.

I am definitely not a fan of Maton's AP5. Their components are inconsistent in quality resulting in some pickups producing a low level hum. I sent two otherwise OK guitars back to them for this reason. However, if your client is after a pickup that will hum along to the music then that's the one to get.

Hi Christian,

They are only available from maton, you will need to turn your top into swiss cheese to install it , they are know as a palathelic Pickup, I suspect Dekka might have another name for them .

As Dekka said they can be inconsitant , and when they go wrong can be a bitch to get balanced and working properly, talk him into something else , K&K or BBand or a Fishman.
See pic below.

Cheers,

I agree, something like this. Causes weak and often "bellied" top.

Thanks for the valuable info guys!!
I can't get over that huge slot cut in the top. I gotta say i'm a little worried about these. Especially if it needs fine tuning because my building style isn't the most practical for adjustments.
Thanks again.
Christian

I reckon that if you make the top 50% thicker you'll be just fine...

Tell your client to man up and install a K and K system.
