Gidgee/Mulga or similar needed

Post by graham mcdonald » Fri Mar 22, 2013 8:42 am

Gentles,

I have a couple of fiddles just about ready except for fingerboard and tailpieces which I have been making from ring gidgee for the past several years. I have been trying to get some more from a well known supplier of gidgee and mulga for six months, but there is always another excuse why it never arrives, and I am now getting a bit desperate. I need three or four pieces of gidgee or mulga or some other dark coloured Australian native ebony substitute that are 300x50x15mm (or bigger or in multiples of that). Open to all offers/suggestions

cheers

graham

Hi Graham,

I have some ringed western myall (I think it is Acacia papyrocarpa, not certain though), is that any use to you?

Thanks,
GregL.

Hi Graham,

I have some Mulga fretboards but nothing that thick. Mine are all about 8mm thick. Also, this batch is a lot lighter than I usually get so not a good match for the ebony. I assume you are referring to http://www.loggerheads.com.au re the supplier? I know Graham will supply it if he has it. Anyway, good luck with your search. If you want any of the Mulga let me know and I can send you some pics.

Hi Graham,

Did you get my email with 3 pics attached? I tried sending it to graham@mcdonaldstrings but I got a "Delivery has failed" message from MAIL-DAEMON, so I sent it again via PM but not sure if it went through?

Thanks,
GregL.

I think there should be a .com or similar on the end of that email address.

I've got a piece of Mulga you can have for the postage, but it's not dark. Will post a pic when I get home. I think it's around 12mm thick. Will check

Graham, I have one long oversize mulga FB. Mid brown gold, smells lovely. Your welcome to check it out.
Cheers

G'day Graham ,
I currently have about 15 ton of Gidgee in the yard , Ringed , Birdseye , plain , even a bit of stuff I have split billet out for trueness of the grain . Some goes out to about 7 years air dry . Also Mulga , Myall , Doolalia , Belah , Boonaree and a bunch of other arid zone timbers . If you still need any drop me a note . All the best .
Pete
