Router Collets

Post by Trevor Gore » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:18 pm

I have a number of routers/trimmers, some better than others, but I have a few trimmers of the "Ryobi" pattern (but only one Ryobi(!)). All of them exhibit radial run out to some degree or other, which is only to be expected, I guess, for these inexpensive tools. (The more expensive routers do run true). Anyway, one was running particularly badly, so I set to looking for the source of the run-out. All my cheap trimmers have the 1/4" collet assembly as shown below.

All the cones in the shafts run true, which I thought was quite impressive, which means that all the run out is in the collets. So, to the question:

Having done a reasonable search, I can't find any better quality aftermarket collets to suit. Better quality probably means at least 3 slits, rather than the one split shown. Does anyone have a source??

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks, Jim. I did have a look through their stuff prior, but couldn't find anything that seemed likely. I'll maybe write to them and see if they have anything suitable.
