"The Warrior" new build.
Well this is the last guitar for 2012, and as usual named after a gold mine in the Charters Towers gold fields, Old Warrior.
I had thought of a delivery date for this guitar sometime in January 2013, but the customer was going on holidays and wanted to bring the date forward, Its now finished and delivered but I did not like the rush to the finish and I think certain things suffered as a result.
As can be seen it’s a Resonator guitar, electric/acoustic solid body. It is made of all New Guinea Rosewood except for the fingerboard which is an unknown [to me] hardwood. The customer wanted me to use timber that his late father had stored in his shed for many years, but on getting amongst it we found that somebody had beaten me to it and a lot of the good stuff was gone. But as it turned out the customer wanted a solid colour on the guitar any way so that did not really matter. I do not like solid colours as I like to see the timber/grain so a compromise was struck with a sunburst effect on the back complimented by the natural look of the neck.
Instead of my usual pearl inlay on the headstock the customer [as the guitar is in memory of his father] wanted two of his dad’s service club badges used instead. Locking tuners were also used. The controls include a blend pot for the bringing together of the acoustic and magnetic pickups, also a master volume and tone pot and 3 way selector switch. The AJS inlay is his father’s initials and is in Maple instead of MOP, as the customer wished.
I thought the guitar sounded awesome both full magnetic, acoustic Reso and the mix of the two was a real pleasing sound with the brightness of the cone pickup blended with the P90 warm tones of the magnetic neck pickup.
The customer was over the moon, and so was I.
Thanks for looking. Have good Christmas and a dusty new year.

Wow Taff you never cease to amaze me ! I have to admit that I have never seen anything like it.
Fantastic work mate, if it suffered from a fast finish it doesnt show

Nice job Taffy, did you source all the reso hardware locally or get it from overseas?

That is so cool! Always good to see something that is quite unique but also looks beautiful. I think the sunburst on the back to show the timber has worked really well. It has a very sexy modern/retro thing going on. Great stuff!

Thanks for looking guy's,
Nick: I got these locally Lamberti, but unreliable, I only part of the order six months ago and still waiting for the rest. I have also bought from Stumac and a place in Tassie, Peter Moles Molonator Guitars.

Thanks for the continued interest folks.
JJ, all I know the tree as is a flowering gum. It's a messy tree as it drops its leaves, loses its bark and is attractive to Red Tailed Black Cockatoos, who don't just eat the seed pods [gum nuts] but bite off the ends of the small branches and drop them to the ground. Takes a nice photo though. I'm sure there are other members who know their trees and speak Latin who could help.
