Another TOTAL Eclipse

This guitar, a Dreadnought, was started a long time ago and finished at the time of the resent Total Eclipse. So as I name my guitars after old gold mines in the Charters Towers gold fields, this one was to be no different, it’s called “The Eclipse”

The guitar is made of the following:
N G Rosewood 3 piece back and sides and neck
Sitka Spruce top and braces
Maple Bindings
EI Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
Bone nut and saddle
Graphtec bridge pins
MOP inlays.
Sperzel locking Tuners [at the customer’s request as was the snake inlay].
Its finished in nitro.
The customer also insisted I have my signature on the guitar, not just on the label, hence the brace plate on the peghead.

The sound at this early stage is very pleasing and the people who have heard it say “WOW”! I take this as a good indicator, and its good feedback for me.
I used the plate/brace tuning technique I have used for the last couple of years, and it has always given me better sounding guitars, especially with cheaper tone woods such as the NGR.

This guitar has high volume for little effort, volume is even across all strings and the bass response is getting better as the guitar loosens up, and is has sweet singing high tones with good sustain which will suit the new owners playing style.

I had the opportunity to play this guitar today. Not only does it look good but it sounds real good. Nice sustain and string balance. I noticed the different shape first up and that the sound hole was smaller than my dready that I have just finished. Taffy has used his own bracing design and the smaller soundhole is part of his tuning process. I think he builds beautiful instruments and it is a treat to see his work. Also I pick his brain on guitar building when ever I can. Finally I really love the story that evolves though his inlay work on each of his instruments.

Thanks all for your comments and for looking. I delivered the guitar to its new owner on Saturday and experience a sweet and sour moment, so to speak.
This is how it went:
I puts the guitar case on the table and opens it, customer looks at the guitar for about 3 minutes, in the case, without touching it [ I'm getting worried].

I take guitar out of case and hands it to customer who takes it and sits to play,

Customer plays for ten minutes non stop with out saying anything [I've got the worried feeling coming back, he's playing fingerstyle with no picks and no fingernails and no smiles]

Then he reaches for his flat pick [my spirits begin to rise] and he plays for about another 10 minutes without comment but.........
now he's looking up at me and smiling every few minutes [at last some feed back] :

He then says he likes it and hands it to me to play [I play it to him and he said it sounds great and smiles all round.]

As we walk to my car, he thanks me again and starts talking about the next commission. Isn't it great to bring some happiness into the world. For him and me.
