External volume control on a pre-amped system

Post by simso » Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:02 pm

I have a question for anyone that knows something about wiring, I am officially stumped.

First let me start by saying fishman saids it cannot be done, this was from Frank in the technical department of fishman.

I need to install a fishman classic 4 into an acoustic, then between the pre-amp and input jack I need to install a master volume switch. I have tried 25k, 250k.500k, 1meg, you name it, it kills the circuit completley "no sound outputting".

Does anyone know what type of potentiometer they use in the new input jack cables with volume control.

Long story short this guitar is getting 2 fishman systems to a 3 way to a master volume and tone with a seperate singular battery system.

The rest is easy, just trying to get a volume switch or trim pot of some form to control the mixed amped signal, Ive even considered modifying a pedal box and installing that inside

Ideas

Just a gut feeling but i'd be going for less resistance rather than more if what you've tried kills everything.

I'm using an external volume pedal, an ernie ball on my pedalboard.
You can get a couple of models, but they are basically 25K for active or 250K for passive.
I am using the 25K but it is after several buffered effects.
I wonder whether the problem you are having is because of the switching arrangement for the battery at the Jack?

Here's the schematic for the 25K which I reckon would be the approriate one for you, just a standard signal input one end , ground the other, output on wiper.

Thanks jeff, pretty much identical to how I had it wired, Im going to go grab a volume pedal today and see if that works and then work backwards
