Making your own scrapers from cheap new saw blades.

Hi Guys and Gal
I thought I would have a go at some new scrapers using a new cheap saw rather than cut up a nice old one , I got these ones from Total tools. $15 for the two I think they cost. [ got them three months back and have forgotten the exact price ]
I got enough steel for about six scrapers out of the two.
I gave them a bit of a workout and a few sharpens and they seem to be excellent .It's only been on some soft Mahogany so far ,I will have to give them a run on a big slab of Oak and see how long they last compared to Old saw steel , but I reckon they will do well on that as well.

how exactly did you cut the blade? grinder with a metal cutting wheel?

Yes Pete , an angle grinder with a cutting disk, you can get nice fine ones that are 2 mm . The thin ones cut fast but are fragile ( pretty sure it's 2 mm or 2.5 mm, I can check in the morning )
I clamp the saw blade to a scrap bit of wood, mark out with a black texta marker, then cut through to the wood. it would then be possible to straighten them up with the angle grinder with a grinding disk , but I usually go to the linisher for this step , then the file, then to the oil stone. The saw you see had a coating of something ? That I sanded of the faces with 280 grit paper and an oil and turps mix before I put it on my stone. Once it's all dressed up square I burnish the edge with a ground and polished triangular file.
